There is no denying the fact that a good Twitter profile does a better job of giving your auto dealership a great social reputation than nearly anything else. If you know what you can accomplish with Twitter, it can go a long way in building both brand awareness and credibility for your dealership.
On the flip side, there are things that you may inadvertently do that can cause damage as well.
We will highlight a few things that you simply mustn’t do, to avoid harming the Twitter presence of your automotive business.
1. Don’t Leave the Profile Image Blank
This is a common one. A lot of businesses don’t bother with uploading a profile image on their Twitter profile. Having something as simple as your dealer logo makes your profile instantly recognizable to visitors. People always connect with profiles that have a clear identity.
While you’re doing this, it’s worth taking the time to get a good header image done as well. This is the large image that sits at the top of your profile. You could use it to advertise your dealership, or showcase running offers.

2. Encourage Your Sales Staff to Use Twitter Actively

Using Twitter, your sales agents can even boost the level of interaction with your prospects before and during the purchase, and even after the deal is closed.
However, keep in mind that only around 20-25% of your Twitter time should be spent on actively marketing your car dealer website. Spend the rest of it to engage with the customers and build a relationship with them.
3. Don’t Forget to Retweet
Twitter is all about working on how connected you are. Don’t make the mistake of tweeting only about your dealership. Retweet relevant content from a broader section of the Twitter universe.
When replying to someone else’s tweet, add in some images that are rich in detail. This will help to improve your Twitter reputation.
People will always follow those who seem to know what they’re talking about. Supporting others and offering your professional opinion keeps your Twitter profile involved and will increase the number of followers you have, thereby directly enhancing your brand’s visibility.
4. Mind Your Language!
Capitals and exclamation marks are alright when you want to make an announcement, but try to use them sparingly.
Constant use of exclamation marks and ALL CAPS will make your tweets look as though you’re yelling. It degrades the professionalism of your profile and, in turn, your dealership.
Conversely, being respectful online goes a long way in building trust and integrity.
5. Don’t Use Long Links
Twitter already doesn’t allow you to write a lot, and throwing a full length link into your tweet cuts the amount of space you have even further.
In addition to this inconvenience, long hyperlinks also don’t appear very elegant. There are many excellent services online such as bitly.com or tinyurl.com that provide you the option of shortening URLs into short, concise ones that don’t take up too much space in your post. Best of all, they’re free of cost.
